Coach Snow Leaves Riverdale for Eagleville

5-4-06 Coach Matt Snow will leave Riverdale to become the new offensive line coach for Eagleville High School. Snow has worn many hats in his tenure with the Warriors. As head freshmen coach, Snow lead the Warriors to 4 consecutive Lions Bowl Championships. He has coached defensive line, linebackers and spent the last two years with running backs. Coach Snow will teach history at Eagleville, a position that he now retains at Riverdale. Good Luck Coach Snow!!


Michael Oden Receives DNJ Travis Weber Courage Award

5-4-06 Graduating senior Michael Oden has received the Travis Weber Courage Award from the Daily News Journal at their annual All Sports Awards Banquet. Oden was diagnosed as autistic as a child. He has overcome many obstacles in his life and done it with an infectious smile. Oden has spent the last 4 years as a part of the Warrior football program. In that time he has not missed a practice or weight workout. If the doors are open for a football event he is present. Michael will graduate Riverdale High School with a 3.6 grade point average. Education has always been important to Oden, who will attend MTSU in the fall. Michael Oden has been an inspiration to everyone involved in the Riverdale football program these last four years. Congratulations and good luck Michael!!


Coach Lytle Accepts O-Line Job at Gallatin

5-1-06 Coach Mike Lytle will leave Riverdale after two years as tight end coach to become the offensive line coach at Gallatin High School. Lytle came to Riverdale from Warren County in 2004 and helped guide the Warriors to the 2004 state championship. Coach Lytle is a history teacher at Riverdale and will continue to teach history at Gallatin. Good luck Coach Lytle!!


Coach Davis Headed to Siegel, Coach White Stays With Warriors

4-27-06 Coach Lee Davis will leave Riverdale after 4 years as the Warrior Freshman offensive line coach. Davis will join the Siegel staff as their varsity tight end and tackle coach. Coach Davis is a special education teacher at Daniel McKee alternative school and will remain there in his current teaching position. With a change of heart and family circumstances, Coach Kris White will remain on the Warrior staff as linebacker and strength coach.


Spring Practice Dates Changed

4-25-06 The Riverdale Warriors will conduct spring practice beginning Tuesday, May 2nd and finishing on May 19th. The Warriors will have 10 practices and two scrimmage in 15 days. Riverdale will scrimmage Coffee County on Friday, May 12th at 5:30 in Tomahawk Stadium. The Warriors will close spring drills when they travel to Ravenwood on May 19th to scrimmage the 2005 5-A State Champion Raptors. The annual Red & Gold game will not be played because the Warriors were able to pick up a second scrimmage.

Riverdale Names Ron Aydelott Head CoachWarriors

4-20-06 For only the fourth time in Riverdale's rich 34 year history, there will be a new head coach at the helm. Ron Aydelott was announced as the head coach yesterday in front of his new team. Aydelott compiled a 102-46 record over the last 12 years at Hillsboro High School. His Burro teams were State Runner-up in 2001and 2002 and won the 4A State Championship in 2003 defeating Morristown West 21-0. Coach Aydelott will spend the next few days getting acquainted with his new team and planning for spring practice.


Coach Rankin Takes Alcoa Job, Ends 16 Year Career as Warrior LeaderWarriors

4-10-06 Coach Rankin has accomplished more in his 16 years at Riverdale High School than most coaches accomplish in a 30 year career. Rankin has accepted the head coaching job at perennial 2A powerhouse Alcoa High School. Coach Rankin leaves a legacy of school achievements for Riverdale to build upon. At the top is 4 state championships and 9 state championship appearances from 1993-2004. He has the Warriors on a 70 game winning streak over region opponents and has led the Warriors to 15 straight conference titles. Coach Rankin will be missed but his legacy will always remain in the traditions and stories that surround Riverdale Football. Good luck Coach Rankin!!

3-22-06 Coach Thomas McDaniel and Coach Kris White have decided to further their coaching careers. Coach McDaniel has been the Warriors defensive back coach since 2001. McDaniel has coached in 4 Blue Cross Bowls in his 5 year stint at Riverdale. He has accepted the defensive coordinators position at Battle Ground Academy under new head coach Tim Johnson. Coach White played under Coach Rankin from 1990-1992 and has been linebacker and strength coach with the varsity squad since 2004. White will head to Franklin County with former Riverdale coach Steve Britton in a similar capacity. Both Coach McDaniel and Coach White have been big assets to the Warrior program and will be missed. Good luck coaches in your new endeavors.


Warriors Participate in Dr. Seuss Read Across America ProgramWarriors

3-20-06 Riverdale athletes traveled to Christiana Elementary School and read Dr. Seuss to classes for the annual Read Across America Day. Christiana librarian Beverly Sanford has invited Riverdale to read to the elementary students the last two years. This year the Warriors had 36 athletes from 7 different sports involved in this community service project. This was a great experience for the Warrior athletes to see that young people are looking up to them. Riverdale would like to thank Principal Ms. Sue Parsley and Mrs Beverly Sanford for letting us be a part of this character building experience.

3-14-06 The 2005 Riverdale Football Banquet of Champions honored this year's award winners for the past season. Nearly 350 people attended the banquet to recognize the best that the 2005 season had to offer. Riverdale handed out Academic Awards to 9 players with grade point averages that ranged from 3.5 to 3.9. Seniors Kit Hartsfield, Daniel Blake and Shane Rollins were named Captains for the 2005 season. Hartsfield and senior Gaston Miller were given the prestigious Warrior of the Year Award.

Lebanon Wins Power Lifting Meet for Third YearWarriors

3-11-06 The Blue Devils from Lebanon acquired their third straight Warrior Power Lifting Meet win Saturday at Riverdale. Seven teams competed in this year's meet, including teams from as far away as Greenwood High School from Kentucky and McMinn County High School from the Chattanooga area. The 2006 meet set a record for the most lifters to compete in the Warrior Power Lifting event. Over 175 lifters competed for first, second and third place in nine different weight classes.

February Weight Test Shows Positive GainsWarriors

2-15-06 After the second weight test of the off-season, Riverdale is showing positive gains. All but one of the 114 members of the Warrior squad made some gain since the December test. Riverdale tests for three lifts: squat, power clean and bench. These three lifts are added together to give a player a total lift. Forrest Hill led all seniors with a total of 125 pounds gained followed by Tim Grove, Chaz Ward and Shaun Bell with 50 pounds gained. Josh Towe, Chris Murphy and LaDarrius Verge led all juniors with 65 pounds gained followed by Chase Patterson and David Sumrall with 55 pounds gained. Numerous sophomores made gains over 60 pounds. The Warriors have 9 players that squat 400 pounds or more, 21 players that power clean 225 pounds or more, 13 players that bench press 250 pounds or more, 7 players that have a total of 900 pounds or more and have a pound for pound total of 5.0 or higher. Forty-nine of 114 players made a weight club this testing period.

Riverdale Football Banquet Tickets Now On SaleWarriors

2-15-06 The annual Riverdale Football Banquet of Champions will be held on Monday, March 13, 2006 at 6:30. This year's banquet will be held at MTSU's Tennessee Room in the James Union building. Tickets are $17.00 for this event and will go on sale on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 and run through Friday, March 3, 2006. No Tickets will be sold at the door and there is no admittance without a ticket. There will be a silent auction that night with items such as authentic Riverdale helmets and jerseys, autographed footballs, and more. A three course meal will precede the awards ceremony. Come join us in the celebration of a great season.

2-15-06 The 2006 Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association All-Star football team that has been selected to compete against the Kentucky All-Star squad. Senior RB/DB Gaston Miller has been picked by a panel of coaches to play in this All Star classic. This year's game site has not been determined to date because the University of Tennessee's Neyland Stadium is under renovation. The University of Tennessee Chattanooga's Findley Stadium has been discussed as the possible site for the game which will be played sometime in June.

Annual Power Lifting Meet Date SetWarriors

2-2-06 The annual Riverdale Warrior Power Lifting Meet will be on Saturday, March 11 in the Riverdale gym. Invitations have been sent out to 40 teams across the mid-state and southern Kentucky. Region rival Lebanon has won the last two meets and will try for a third straight this year. For more information click on the link below.

Coach Britton Heads to Franklin County to Lead RebelsWarriors

2-2-06 Riverdale offensive line coach Steve Britton accepted the head coaching position at Franklin County High School this past December. Britton will leave Riverdale to assume his full time position with the Rebels on February 15th. Steve has been with the Warriors since 1993 and has coached both the defensive line and offensive line in that time. Britton has been involved in Riverdale's nine state championship game appearances and four state championships. Congratulations and good luck to Coach Britton.


Former Warrior Cortez "Big City" Lawrence Signs Scholarship with Valdosta StateWarriors University

2-2-06 Cortez "Big City" Lawrence has enrolled at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia this spring and will play defensive line for the Blazers this fall. Big City was an outstanding defensive lineman for the Warriors on their 2002 state runner-up team. Lawrence graduated from Riverdale and traveled to Northeast Mississippi Community College where he started the past two years for the Tigers. Cortez is one of 12 defensive linemen that the Blazers signed this year to replace a position that was hit hard by graduation.

2-1-06 Seniors Tamar Butler, Kit Hartsfield, Gaston Miller and Antwuan Smith will sign letters of intent today at high noon to play at the next level next year. Butler, FB/LB, has decided to further his education at Murray State University in Kentucky. Hartsfield, FB/LB, will stay a little closer to home at Austin Peay State University. Miller, who committed last summer, will attend Vanderbilt University. Smith will head south to attend Georgia Military College. For more click here.

Miller Named to Prep Nation 101 All American Team

1-10-06 The 2005 PrepNation 101 All-American Team -- the only high school All-American squad to include players from all 50 states -- has been announced by the high school sports website PrepNation.com.

The team features the 101 top prep football players in the country from the 2005 season, as selected by PrepNation Editor and Publisher Jamie DeMoney. Game tape, all-state lists, sportswriters and other prep football analysts around the nation were consulted by DeMoney in making his selections.

12-25-05 Five Warriors were placed on the 2005 Tennessean All Mid-State Team. Seniors Gaston Miller and Kit Hartsfield were named to the first team offense and defense. Seniors Rory Fite and Tamar Butler were named to the second team offense and defense. Senior Daniel Blake was named to the third team offense.

Gaston Miller Named Player of the Year in Mid-State by TennesseanWarriors

12-25-05 Gaston Miller could be the most recognized and decorated player to come through Riverdale. This year has been a season of other organizations recognizing Gaston Miller’s achievement. His family’s front room is filled with various trophies that line the walls. The trophies include several from this year. Miller was named the American General Class 5A Mr. Football Back of the Year, Lawrenceburg Quarterback Club’s Charles Greenhill Prep Player of the Year and Middle Tennessee Player of the Year, PrepNation.com’s Tennessee Player of the Year, Tennessee Sports Writers Association All State and Region 4-5A MVP.

12-23-05 Seniors Tamar Butler, Rory Fite and Gaston Miller were named to the 2005 Tennessee Sports Writers Association 5A All State Team. Fite and Miller were named as lineman and running back on the TSWA offense. Butler was the only Warrior named to the defensive side of the ball. Butler, Fite and Miller were all three named All Region.

Riverdale's Gaston Miller Named Player of the Year in Tennessee by Prep NationWarriors

12-6-05 Senior Gaston Miller is still garnering accolades for the 2005 season. Prep Nation.com has named Gaston the Prep Player of the Year for the State of Tennessee for 2005. Miller who has won the Mr. Football Back of the Year, Lawrenceburg Quarterback Club Player of the Year, and Most Valuable Player of the Year for Region 4-5A, is the second player for Riverdale to earn this award. Dave Thomas was named Prep Nation Player of the Year for the State of Tennessee in 2004.

Warriors Place Seven Players On All Region Team Warriors

11-30-05 The 2005 Region 4-5A All Region Team has been announced and seven Warriors will represent Riverdale this year. Senior, Mr. Football Back of the Year, Gaston Miller was selected the region's Most Valuable Player for 2005. Seniors Kit Hartsfield, Tamar Butler, Antwaun Smith, Phillip Stevenson, Daniel Blake and Rory Fite were all selected from the 2005 Riverdale squad. Andrew Rodriguez, form LaVergne, was selected Offensive Player of the Year. Defensive Player of the Year is Nick Clark from Wilson Central. Chip Rhome, from Blackman, was selected Specialty Player of the Year. The Coach of the Year is Don Thomas of LaVergne High School.

Gaston Miller Makes Big Haul at Awards BanquetsWarriors

11-28-05 Senior Gaston Miller had to make an extra trip to his car yesterday in between banquets. Miller won the Lawrenceburg Quarterback Club's Middle Tennessee Player of the Year and the Lawrenceburg Quarterback Club's Charles Greenhill Prep Player of the Year at nine o'clock in the morning. After a trip to the car to lighten his load, Gaston was named the TSSAA’s Class 5A Mr. Football Back of the Year. Miller is the second player in Riverdale history to claim both awards in the same year. Brian Davis won both awards in 1992. Gaston finished his career at Riverdale with 5135 yards rushing, second only behind Ralph King, and 82 touchdowns.

Gary Rankin Named Lawrenceburg Quarterback Club's Rex Dockery Coach of the YearWarriors

11-28-05 Riverdale head coach Gary Rankin was named the Lawrenceburg Quarterback Club's Rex Dockery Coach of the Year. This is the second time that Coach Rankin has won this award while at Riverdale and is the only two time winner of the award. Rankin has amassed a 194-25 record in his 16 years as chief of the Warriors. Coach Rankin is also responsible for 9 state championship appearances, 4 state championships, 48-11 playoff record, 2 Lawrenceburg Quarterback Club Player of the Year winners, 15 Mr. Football finalists and 8 Mr. Football Winners.


Warriors Lose First Semi-Final GameWarriors

11-26-05 For the first time in Riverdale history, the Warriors will not play in a state championship game after playing in the semi-finals. The Warriors were put out of the TSSAA state play-offs by a hungry Oak Ridge team 17-0. The shutout was the first since a 6-0 lose to Lebanon in 1993. The Warriors committed 4 turnovers and penalties at crucial times to stop drives. Riverdale finishes the season 13-1and with many things to be proud of; a 28 game winning streak, 70 game region winning streak, a win over Ohio state quarter finalist Kilbourne, two Mr. Football finalist.

11-22-05 The Lawrenceburg Quarterback Club will present their 26th annual state football awards at the Opryland Hotel on November 28th at 9:00 am. The Charles Greenhill Prep Player of the Year presented to the top high school football player in Tennessee will be awarded from the top three players from the 3 geographic regions in the state

11-21-05 The Riverdale Warrior Football web site, for a second time, has been selected National High School Site of the Week by Tony Bianco.com. The 'Tony' poll is a ranking of the top 25 high schools across the USA. The poll is produced weekly during the high school football season. Officially, a weekly poll has been produced via the web since the start of the 1998 football season. The 'Tony' poll elects not to carry any sponsors to show their love for the game of high school football, and not to make money each week for producing a poll. The 'Tony' poll has 16 members living from the east coast to the west coast who submit input to the weekly compile process. These 16 members get their input from local sports newspapers, by attending games, state AP polls and numerous sports writers within their given area.

11-21-05 For the third straight year on Thanksgiving weekend, the Warriors and Wildcats will meet in the semi-finals and play for a chance to participate in the Blue Cross Bowl. Riverdale is 5-0 against Oak Ridge and all five wins have come in the play-offs. The Warriors have eliminated the Wildcats in the semi-finals the past two years. Kick-off will be at 6:00 (CST).

Warriors Use 1-2 Punch to Knock Out Cavs - 28-21Warriors

11-19-05 With only 2:42 remaining in the game, Senior running back Gaston Miller (No. 1) and senior fullback Kit Hartsfield (No.2) led the Warriors on a 70 yard game winning drive to knock out Cookeville for the second straight year. Riverdale (13-0) tried to give the game to Cookeville(11-2) by committing 5 turnovers, but were able to survive to play another day. Senior Antwaun Smith sealed the win for the Warriors with an interception with 15 seconds left on the Cavs final drive. Riverdale will travel to Oak Ridge for a TSSAA semi-final game next Friday.

11-14-05 Riverdale (12-0) will travel to Cookeville this Friday to face the Cavaliers, the No. 3 team in the final AP class 5A poll. Cookeville defeated Wilson Central 21-10 last week to earn a rematch of the 2004 quarter final game with the Warriors. Riverdale will play at Cookeville's Eddie Watson Stadium for the first time in school history. The Warriors hold a 21-1 lead in this series. Kick-off is set for 7:00 and tickets will be $7 at the gate.

Riverdale Rolls Past Bulldogs - 35-21Warriors

11-12-05 Led by Mr. Football nominee Gaston Miller's 244 yards rushing, and a team total of 348 yards rushing, the Warriors rolled past the Bulldogs in the second round of the TSSAA state playoffs. Miller had 180 yards by halftime as the Warriors took a 14-7 lead into the locker room. Riverdale popped off 14 unanswered points in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. With the 35-21 win the Warriors earn a quarter final berth against an 11-1 Cookeville Cavalier team that beat Wilson Central 21-10.

Tamar Butler & Gaston Miller Nominated for American General Mr. Football

11-10-05 Seniors Tamar Butler and Gaston Miller have been nominated as American General Mr. Football finalists for the 2005 season. Butler was nominated as one of the top three linemen in the State of Tennessee in 5A and Miller was nominated as one of the top three backs. Tamar is a three year starter at outside linebacker. He has amassed a total of 176 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, and 16 sacks in his carrier on defense. On offense Butler has rushed for over 1,000 yards, 13 touchdowns and owns a 8.5 yards per rush average. Gaston has rushed for 4772 yards on 528 carries for an average of 9 yards per carry. and has 77 touchdowns in his career. This is the third time in five years that the Warriors have had two players nominated for Mr. Football in the same season. In 2001Ralph King and John Batey were nominated and won, and Dave Thomas and Chris Perkins were nominated in 2004. Riverdale has had 15 Mr. Football nominations and 8 Mr. Football winners in the last thirteen years.

11-6-05 Riverdale (11-0) will host the number three seed in region 4-5A Smyrna Bulldogs (7-4) for a TSSAA second round match-up. This will be the fourth meeting in the last two years between these two county rivals. The Warriors defeated the Bulldogs in the second round of the playoffs last year 35-0. Riverdale leads the series 15-0.

11-5-05 Seconds is all it took for the Warriors to send Franklin County home with their third straight playoff loss to the Riverdale. The Warriors scored three times in nine seconds or less in the first half. Riverdale scored 45 first half points and gave the starting offense the second half off. Franklin County managed to score 14 points late in the game against when the Warriors had pulled all their starters. Riverdale will move on to the second round against the Smyrna Bulldogs.

10-31-05 The Riverdale Warriors (10-0) enter the first round of the TSSAA play-offs as a number 1 seed from region 4-5A and will host the number 4 seed from region 3-5A, Franklin County(4-6). Fridays game will be a rematch of last years first round match-up in which the Warriors defeated the Rebels 41-0. Riverdale leads the series 12-8.

Riverdale Wins 35th Meeting of The Battle of the 'Boro - 42-7Warriors

10-29-05 It took only the first quarter to see this was not going to be much of a "Battle." Riverdale scored on the first play from scrimmage on a 38 yard pass from Scott Thomas to Antwone Smith. Smith then returned the following punt 72 yards for his second of three touchdowns on the night. Senior Gaston Miller scored three touchdowns in the first half to bring his total for the year to 28 and he has scored a touchdown in 19 straight games. The Warriors have won the last six Battle of the 'Boro matches and holds a 26-9 lead in the long running rivalry. Oakland finishes their season with the same 2-8 record as last year. The warriors complete regular season play 10-0 and move on to face Franklin County in the first round of the TSSAA play-offs.

The Battle of the 'Boro - Riverdale vs OaklandWarriorsWarriors

10-25-05 The 35th renewal of the Battle of the 'Boro will take place this week at Tomahawk Stadium with kick-off set for 7:30. In 1972 Central High School spilt to form Riverdale & Oakland. These teams did not play the first two years because people thought that players would have a hard time playing against old team mates. In 1974 the first Battle of the 'Boro was played with Riverdale coming out on top 10-7. Oakland is the only team in Rutherford County that has ever beaten Riverdale. The Warriors hold a 25-9 lead in the series and have shout out the Patriots 6 times in 34 games. The Warriors have won the last six meetings including a 48-0 shout out last year.

Warriors Are Region 4- 5A Champions Warriors

10-24-05 For the fifteenth consecutive year, the Riverdale Warriors have captured the conference championship. A 34-21 win over Lebanon secured the number one spot for the Warriors in 2005. Riverdale holds a 6-0 mark in region play, followed by Wilson Central at 5-1. The Wildcats only loss came to the Warriors. Riverdale has won the region/district championship every year since 1991, Coach Rankin's second year at Riverdale. The Warriors also won district championships in 1978, 1979, 1981, under Coach Phil Watts and in 1985, 1986 under Coach Dean Fisher.

10-24-05 The 2005 post season is upon us and everyone is curious where their team will play in the first round. Riverdale will host a first round game at Tomahawk Stadium and will likely play Franklin County.

The possibilities for Region 3 and Region 4 are as follows:

Region 3

Cookeville is first. Lincoln County is second.
Warren County is third and Franklin County is fourth, unless Warren County loses and Franklin County wins, in which case Franklin County is third and Warren County is fourth.

Region 4

Riverdale is first.
If Wilson Central wins, Wilson Central is second, Smyrna is third, and Lavergne is fourth.
If Lavergne wins, Lavergne is second, Wilson Central is third, and Smyrna is fourth

Warriors Post Ninth Win Against LebanonWarriors

10-22-05 Despite the rainy conditions, the Warrior faithful traveled to Lebanon to watch their Warriors defeat the Blue Devils 34-21 for their 15th consecutive region/district championship. Riverdale exploded in the first quarter for 21 unanswered points. Lebanon was able to produce 14 points in the second quarter for a 21-14 halftime score. After the Warrior defense held Lebanon on the first drive of the second half, Riverdale marched 76 yards, capped off by a 15 yard Gaston Miller run, to push the score to 27-14.

10-20-05 The Warriors will face the Blue Devils for the 32nd time this week at Lassiter field in Lebanon. Riverdale holds a 22-9 edge in one of the longest series in school history. The Warriors defeated the Blue Devils 34-0 in the driving rain of Hurricane Ivan. Lebanon enters this weeks game 2-3 in the region and 2-6 overall. Riverdale can clinch their fifteenth consecutive region/district championship with a win over the Blue Devils. Kick-off is set for 7:30.

Riverdale Pounds the Dawgs With Second Half Scoring SpreeWarriors

10-15-05 The third quarter turned into a scoring spree for the Warriors last night. Riverdale scored 23 points in the first 7:18 of the second half on their way to a 51-20 win over the Smyrna Bulldogs. The Warrior defense held the Bulldogs to 3 and and recovered a arrant punt snap on the Smyrna one yard line. Gaston Miller scored the second of his three touchdowns on the ensuing play. Senior Shane Rollins recorded 2 interceptions, hauled in a 69 yard touchdown pass and was 5-5 on PAT's. The Warriors improve to 8-0 and continue their winning streak of 23 games and have won 68 consecutive region games. Riverdale will travel to Lebanon next week. With a win over the Blue Devils, the Warriors can capture their fifteenth consecutive region championship and their twentieth in school history.

Freshmen Warriors Drill Smyrna 48-6

10-14-05 The Warrior freshmen were led by quarterback Aaron Ebalaroza who rushed for two touchdowns and threw a 36 yard touchdown pass to Ricky Inthirath. Inthirath also scored on a 15 yard run early in the third quarter. Running backs Bryant Nelson and Joey Lee both rushed for touchdowns. Eli Genet returned an interception 50 yards and Alex Farley recovered a fumble to lead the defense. Turner Riddle capped off the scoring fest in the fourth quarter with a 7 yard touchdown run. The freshmen Warriors will host Lebanon next week at Tomahawk Stadium.

10-13-05 The Riverdale student body has elected three Warriors to represent their school on the 2005 homecoming court. Senior Gaston Miller was elected homecoming king and will escort homecoming queen, senior, Amber George. Junior Josh Causey was elected to escort junior attendee Emily Ford . Sophomore Chase Patterson will escort sophomore attendee Desirae Webb. Congratulations Gaston, Josh and Chase.

Riverdale vs Smyrna Game PreviewWarriorsWarriors

10-13-05 Riding a 22 game winning streak and a 67 consecutive region game winning streak, the Warriors will host the Smyrna Bulldogs for homecoming Friday night at Tomahawk Stadium. Riverdale holds a 14-0 lead in the series that dates back to 1976. The Bulldogs enter this weeks game 4-3 on the season. Smyrna's 3 loses are to teams that have a combined record of 18-3; Brentwood (6-1), Wilson Central (6-1), and Ravenwood (6-1). Kick-off is set for 7:30 with homecoming activities during halftime. Seniors Gaston Miller and Amber George will be crowned homecoming king and queen for 2005. The Riverdale Warriors would like to welcome back the Class of 1985 which celebrates their 20 year reunion.

Tennessee Titans Honor Head Coach Gary RankinWarriors

10-4-05 The Tennessee Titans announced today that Gary Rankin, head football coach of Murfreesboro's Riverdale High School, has been named as the Titans High School Football Coach of the Week. Last Friday night, Rankin's Warriors knocked off the No. 3 ranked team in Class 5A Wilson Central 28-14. The win improved the Warriors record to 7-0 on the season and it was their 22nd straight win and 67th straight victory in a region/district regular-season game. Through the Titans Foundation, team owner K.S. "Bud" Adams, Jr. will make a $1,000 contribution to the Riverdale High School football program in Coach Rankin's honor. For more click here.


Riverdale Stays Perfect, Beats Wilson Central 28-14Warriors

10-1-05 In front of an estimated crowd of nearly 8,000 people, the Riverdale Warriors managed to keep the Wilson Central goal posts from coming down with a 28-14 win on the road. The Warriors let everyone know that they are still the number 1 team in the State of Tennessee in 5A football. Riverdale took the lead first on a 9 play 67 yard drive capped off when senior running back Gaston Miller scored from 12 yards out. The Wildcats answered on the next possession to tie the score, 7-7. Riverdale came back and scored on the ensuing drive and never relinquished the lead the rest of the game. The Warriors will enjoy an open week to help heal and get ready to make a run deep in the play-offs. Riverdale will host Smyrna for homecoming on Friday October 14th.

Freshmen Warriors Beaten 28-7 by Wilson Central

9-30-05 The Freshmen Warriors could not slow down a potent Wilson Central offense in a 28-7 loss. Riverdale offense could not manage much on offense except for a Aaron Ebalarosa 50 yard touchdown run. The Riverdale Freshmen now stand 3-3 on the season with Smyrna and Lebanon remaining on the schedule.

9-29-05 It's on. The Warriors and Wildcats have both had this game marked on their calendars since the beginning of the season. This game will likely decide the Region 4-5A champion for 2005. The Warriors are riding a 66 game region winning streak and a 21 game winning streak. Riverdale is ranked as high as 18th in the nation and number one in the state. Warriors Get Back on Track at Dickson CountyWarriors

9-24-05 With a 35-0 win at Dickson County, the Warriors seem to be back on track. Riverdale committed only 3 penalties on the night, rushed for 250 yards on 38 attempts, and scored a touchdown on defense. Riverdale took a 14-0 lead into the locker room at halftime lead by a Scott Thomas' 3 yard run on the opening series of the game and a 10 yard run by Gaston Miller. In the third quarter Marques Locke caught an 18-yard touchdown pass on a slant pattern to increase Riverdale’s lead to three touchdowns. On the Cougars next possession Antwaun Smith stripped the ball, picked it up, and ran 38 yards for his team’s fourth score. Riverdale will travel to Wilson Central for a key region match-up that could decide the region champion.

Riverdale JV Rallies in 2nd Half to Beat LaVergne 20-12

9-20-05 The Warrior JV squad rallied from a 12-6 halftime deficit to score 14 unanswered points in the second half to defeat the LaVergne Wolverines 20-12. With the score tied 12-12 with 3:04 left in the game, Trey Smith connected with Julius Worthington on a 35 yard pass in the corner of the end zone to run the score to 18-12. Smith connected with Worthington again for the two point conversion. The defense held the Wolverines on the last possession of the game to clinch the victory. The Riverdale JV take their record to 2-0 and will host Siegel next Monday, Kick-off is set for 5:00.


Riverdale Freshmen Drop Two in a Row

9-20-05 The Warrior freshmen could not overcome five fumbles against LaVergne in a 23-6 loss. The freshmen have dropped the last two games and are now 2-2 on the season. They will host Siegel next Thursday, Kick-off is set fro 7:00.


Warriors Set School Record for Consecutive WinsWarriors

9-17-05 Riverdale has set a new mark in school history, 20 consecutive wins. The old mark of 19 was set back in 1994-1995 and snapped when the Warriors were beaten by Chattanooga Baylor. The Warriors beat a much improved LaVergne(2-2) team 28-20 in a hard fought battle at Tomahawk Stadium. Senior Gaston Miller rushed for 222 yards on 26 carries and 2 touchdowns on the night. The Warriors continued to struggle with penalties and mistakes. They committed 12 penalties for 112 yards and turned the ball over twice to the Wolverines on fumbles. Next Friday Riverdale will travel to Dickson County(1-3) for their last non-region game of the 2005 season.

Former Warrior Fernando Bryant Donates to Riverdale Football ProgramWarriorsWarriors

9-16-05 Former Riverdale Warrior and current Detroit Lion cornerback Fernando Bryant has given back to his alma mater. Bryant has donated $5,000 to the Riverdale Warrior football program and the NFL will match that donation. Fernando has been recognized by both the Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions for his community service. He was named the Detroit Lions Man of the Year in 2004. Bryant started the 25 Sports Foundation in 2001 to help provide guidance and encouragement to inner-city children through a variety of programs. The Warriors would like to extend a big thanks to Fernando for his generosity.

9-16-05 Due to inclement weather the Warrior freshmen game at LaVergne will be postponed until Monday at 5:00. The Riverdale JV game, also at LaVergne, will start at 7:00 instead of the original 6:00 time.

Warriors On Top of First Associated Press PollWarriors

9-13-05 The Riverdale Warriors are right at home in the first Associated Press 5A State Poll. "It's an honor, but I don't know how much it means at this time of year," said Riverdale head coach Gary Rankin. "It usually puts a bull's-eye on your back, but we've already had that. I don't think it will bother us, but it could be a burden if you haven't been there before". One other Region 4-5A team, Wilson Central, and two other midstate teams — Brentwood and Gallatin — were among the top 10 teams, while McGavock, Ravenwood and Franklin, the team that Riverdale beat in last year's 5A BlueCross Bowl, were ranked in positions No. 11 through No. 13, respectively.

Riverdale JV Wins Opener 28-0 Over Lincoln County

9-13-05 The Riverdale JV squad opened their season with a commanding 28-0 win over visiting Lincoln County. Chaz Ward started the scoring in the first quarter with a 73 yard run for a touchdown. Jeremy McClain rushed 67 yards for the Warriors second score of the opening quarter. Josh Towe rushed for a touchdown early in the second quarter. The Riverdale defense was lead by Zach Mitchell with 9 tackles on the night. The Warrior JV team will travel to LaVergne next Monday night to face the Wolverines. Kick-off is set for 6:00.

Warrior Defense Dominates in Sloppy 27-0 Win Over Lincoln CountyWarriors

9-10-05 Giving up only 15 yards total offense and 2 first downs to the Falcons, the Warrior defense showed signs that they can be a dominating force throughout the year. Lincoln County obtained their first first down on a Warrior interference penalty and did not record their second first down until less than two minutes left in the game. The Warrior defense held the Falcon offense to minus yards until the last series of the game. Sophomore Paul Boykin intercepted his second pass in as many games. The Warrior offense sputtered all night, committing mistakes that would not allow them to get into a rhythm. Riverdale rushed for 358 yards on 48 carries and was 3-11 passing for 96 yards. Senior Gaston Miller toted the ball 21 times for 151 yards and 3 touchdowns to led the Warriors rushing attack. Senior Tamar Butler had 9 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown. The Warriors will host LaVergne (3-1) next week at Tomahawk Stadium.

Exit 81A Runs Through Blackman, Warriors Blank Blaze 63-0Warriors

9-3-05 After a shaky start, the Warrior defense settled down and allowed only 102 yards total offense to the Blaze and recorded their first shutout of the year. Senior Antwaun Smith had a stellar night for the Warriors. Smith returned a fumble 78 yards for a touchdown, returned a punt 63 yards for a touchdown and hauled in three catches for 114 yards on the night. The Riverdale offense amassed 527 total yards for the night, running through Blackman for 362 yards on the ground. The Warriors will host Lincoln County this Friday at Tomahawk Stadium. The game against the Falcons will be broadcast on CSS starting at 7:00 with kick-off at 7:30.

Riverdale Freshmen Limit Blackman to One First Down

9-2-05 The Blackman freshmen rushed for a first down on the first play from scrimmage. That's all they could manage for the rest of the night. The Warrior defense stuffed the Blackman offense for minus yards on the night. Joey Lee scored first for the Warriors on a 5 yard run. Chris Smith hauled in a 50 yard halfback pass from Bryant Nelson to make the score 14-0. Aaron Ebaloroza made the score at halftime 21-0 on a 7 yard touchdown run. Bryant Nelson capped off the scoring for the Warriors with a 5 yard touchdown run. The freshmen Warriors (2-0) travel to Oakland next week.

Warriors Break in to Prep Nation Top 25 National PollWarriors

8-29-05 With a 26-7 win over a solid Worthington Kilbourne, the Warriors were vaulted into the Prep Nation Top 25. Riverdale is ranked number 25 in the national prep poll. Being nationally ranked is not new to the Warriors, last year Riverdale finished ranked 15th or higher in five national prep polls. The Warriors have not won 64 straight regular season games but have won 64 straight region games, dating back to 1995.

Riverdale Travels Well, Welcomed Graciously by Worthington Kilbourne

8-27-05 Riverdale's die-hard, true cardinal and gold fans showed up six and a half hours away from the 'Boro last Friday to cheer on their Warriors. The Riverdale Warriors filled up their side of Kilbourne's stadium with nearly 1500 fans to show their support in a 26-7 win over the Wolves. The Riverdale Football program would like to thank our fans, cheerleaders, dance team, and band for your support. The Worthington Kilbourne administration, student body, and fans showed the Warrior faithful some southern hospitality. We would like to thank Worthington Kilbourne High School for making us feel so welcome. Your hospitality and kindness were second to none.


Warriors Business Trip Results with 26-7 Win in OhioWarriors

8-27-05 Different state, same result. It was business as usual for the Riverdale Warriors when they traveled to Columbus, Ohio and beat Kilbourne High School 26-7. The win pushes the Warriors win streak to 17 games. Riverdale's Gaston Miller rushed for 200 yards on 22 carries to lead the Warriors to their fourth win over an out of state opponent. The Riverdale defense held the Wolves high powered offense to under 200 yards.

8-24-05 Riverdale will travel to Columbus, Ohio this week to take on Worthington Kilbourne High School. The Wolves finished the 2004 season as Region 3 Division I Champions and advanced to the semi-finals where they lost 34-3 to eventual state champion Colerain. Riverdale Iron Warriors Set Tone for SeasonWarriors

8-23-05 The Warriors entered fall camp in the best shape they have ever been. This can be attributed to the Iron Warrior program implemented three years ago by the Riverdale strength coaches . This year Riverdale had 93 players make the Iron Warrior club. The criteria to make Iron Warrior is that you have to be dedicated enough to complete 23 of 26 workouts throughout the summer. The dedication and pride put forth by these young men will payoff for the Warriors on the field.

Warriors Blast Stars Into Next GalaxyWarriors

8-19-05 The Siegel Stars opened their new stadium with the Tennessee Air National Guard landing a Blackhawk helicopter at mid-field before the game to deliver the game ball. Then the Riverdale Warriors commenced to drop a bomb on the Stars new digs. Senior Mr. Football candidate, Gaston Miller scored on the Warriors first play from scrimmage on a 68 yard flare pass from junior Scott Thomas. The Warrior defense did not give up a first down until less than four minutes in the third quarter and allowed the Stars less than 100 yards total offense. Riverdale will travel to Columbus, Ohio to face Division I semi-finalist Worthington Kilbourne in a interstate battle.

Freshmen Warriors Get First Win of the Season

8-18-05 The Freshmen Warriors scored their first victory of the season with a 33-7 win over visiting Centennial. The Warriors scored quick and often. Aaron Ebalarosa scored on a 75 yard kick-off return. Joey Lee returned an interception 80 yards for a touchdown, and B.J. Nelson scored on a run from Scrimmage. The Freshmen will host Blackman next at Tomahawk Stadium on September 1st at 7:00.

8-15-05 The Tennessean has ranked Riverdale No.1 in their preseason Mid-State top 10 poll. The Warriors finished the 2004 season at the No.1 spot last year. The Warriors are followed by 5A runner-up Franklin, Ravenwood, Gallatin, and MBA. Riverdale will begin their quest to repeat as 5A State Champions this Friday when they travel to Siegel for the opening of the 2005 season.

Riverdale Ranked #1 in State and #9 in the Southeast

8-9-05 The Riverdale Warriors have been ranked #1 in the State of Tennessee by Murphy Fair's Tennessee High School Football annual magazine. The Warriors picked up 34 of the 43 first place votes. Riverdale has also been ranked #9 in the Southeast by Prep Nation in their preseason poll. The Warriors finished last season as #1 in the state and #15 in the Prep Nation final poll.

Riverdale Whips Whites Creek

8-9-05 In their second scrimmage of the fall, the Warriors handled Whites Creek with ease. The Warrior defense recorded a shutout and scored on a 25 yard interception return by Phillip Stevenson. Riverdale's offense sputtered at times, committing penalties and bad fumbles. With all the miscues, the Warriors still managed to score 8 touchdowns. Riverdale will travel to Brentwood Thursday for their final scrimmage before entering the 2005 regular season schedule. The scrimmage will begin at 4:00.


Riverdale Starts 2005 With Big Scrimmage Warriors

8-5-05 The Riverdale Warriors started the 2005 season with a big test against Division II semi-finalist Montgomery Bell Academy. Both the Warriors and Big Red use the annual scrimmage as a measuring stick to see where they are at or where they need to be in the preseason. The Warriors came out on top for the second year in a row with a 35-0 shut-out over MBA. The Warrior defense allowed only one first down the entire scrimmage. On the offensive side of the ball, Riverdale scored four times with their first team. Gaston Miller scored on a 1 yard run on the Warrior's first drive and later on a 72 yard burst. Tamar Butler recorded Riverdale's second touchdown on a 65 yard trap up the middle. The Warrior's third touchdown by Scott Thomas was set up by a 60 yard run by Chad Hunter. The Warriors will host Whites Creek on Tuesday for their second of three preseason scrimmages.


Gaston Miller Named to MSL Combine Elite 22Warriors

5-10-05 Riverdale senior running back Gaston Miller was named to the New Balance MSL Combine Elite 22 held in Nashville last weekend. In spite of cold weather and rain, The MSL Combine Presented by New Balance rivaled the Music City Marathon for great athletes at Vanderbilt on April 30. 215 Athletes from the Southeast and Midwest met at the Vanderbilt Commodores’ athletic facility in Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday, April 30 for the sixth MSL Combine presented by New Balance. Thunderstorms from the days leading up to the combine left chilly air and damp fields. As customary, MSL did not stop for the bad weather and neither did the kids, coaches or parents that joined MSL on the field. In spite of the the cool temperature and drenched fields many athletes boasted 40 times of 4.5 and excellent short shuttle times.

Warriors Start 2005 Season Where They Left OffWarriors

5-3-05 The 2005 Riverdale Warriors looked as if they had not missed a beat since last December when they won the 2004 state championship. On the first drive of the scrimmage Kit Hartsfield intercepted a Rebel pass and returned it 48 yards to start the onslaught of scoring. The Riverdale offense scored on 9 of their 11 possessions. Then defense only allowed Franklin into Warrior territory once on the day. The Warriors showed their potential to be explosive on offense in 2005 with a total of 10 touchdowns scored in the scrimmage. Riverdale played the scrimmage without some players that contributed on last years squad. Phillip Stevenson sat out due to a injury, Shayne Rollins is in soccer, and Chad Hunter is in baseball. The Warriors open the 2005 season on August 19 at Siegel High School.

Warriors Complete Schedule, Take Show Out of StateWarriors

3-23-05 The Riverdale Warriors have finalized their 2005-2006 football schedule. Because of the difficulty of scheduling a Division I in-state team, Riverdale will travel to Worthington Kilbourne High School in Columbus, Ohio on August 26, 2005. The Wolves finished the 2004 season 11-2 and lost in the semi-finals to eventual state champion Colerain High School. Kilbourne has an 89-63 overall record since 1991 and made 5 play-off appearances going 7-5.

Warriors Read to Christiana Elementary StudentsWarriors

3-2-05 Members of the Riverdale Warrior football, softball and volleyball teams traveled to Christiana Elementary to read Dr. Seuss books to the students for the annual Read Across America Day. School librarian Mrs. Beverly Sanford invited the Riverdale students to come read and share some of their life experiences with the K-5 students. It was a great experience for the Warrior athletes to see how they might be role models for younger people in our community. A big thanks goes out to Beverly and the students of Christiana Elementary for letting us be a part of your Read Across America Day.

Annual Warrior Powerlifting Meet SetWarriors

2-7-05 The annual Riverdale Warrior powerlifting meet will take place on Saturday, March 12th at 10:00 in the Riverdale gym. Teams from around the mid-state and southern Kentucky have been invited to participate in this all day event. Three lifts, the squat, power clean and bench will be performed in nine different weight classes. The top three lifters in each weight class will be recognized along with the top three teams.


First Off-Season Weight Test Results Posted

2-7-05 The Warriors first weight max of the off-season shows good results. Riverdale has 15 football players involved in other sports at present while 112 players were tested last week. The Warriors have 20 players that power clean and bench 225 pounds or better, 5 players that squat 400 pounds or better, 6 players that have a 900 pound or better total, and 3 players that have a 5.5 or better pound for pound total. Riverdale will work until March 12th and max again during the annual Riverdale powerlifting meet. For complete results of the February 3, 2005 weight test click here.
