Written by G. MICHAEL GRAHAM Gannett Tennessee

HENDERSONVILLE — This one more had scoring than the previous two meetings.

But the Riverdale Warriors used a 21-0 run in the second half to beat the Hendersonville Commandos 49-34 Friday. Class 6A's second-ranked Warriors stayed unbeaten at 6-0 as a result and snapped Hendersonville's three-game winning streak.

Leading 28-21 in the third, Riverdale quarterback Dillon Woodruff found DeAnte Glover for a 73-yard score. Following a Commando fumble, Woodruff threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Mariko Odom to put Riverdale up 42-21.

"We emphasize (converting on third down)," said Riverdale coach Ron Aydelott. "We started out slow. You never know the reason for that with 16-18-year-old kids. But we still made a lot of big plays."

The Warriors added to that lead early in the final stanza. After Scotty Boykin intercepted a Hunter Brown pass and returned it to the Warrior 21, Peyton Phillips broke free for a 55-yard run to put Riverdale up 49-21.

Riverdale outgained Hendersonville (4-2), 670-509 in total offense. Woodruff led the way completing 18-of-28 passes for 347 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for 68 yards and another touchdown.

Adam Davenport and Mariko Odom also had big games for Riverdale. Davenport rushed for 115 yards on 17 carries and Odom had seven catches for 105 yards.

"You can't have penalties and miss tackles against a real good team like that," said Hendersonville coach Bruce Hatfield. We need to clean that up because our schedule continues to be tough."

Brown led the Commandos completing 14-of-24 passes for 293 yards. LaDontez Bryant had four catches for 141 yards and Jarrell Adams added five catches for 111.

"That is the first time our kids have seen that offense (Wing-T) even though we run it," Aydelott said. "We got caught in between whether to play the running plays or the pass. For whatever reason, we played on our heels."

Hendersonville led 14-7 after one quarter., but Riverdale went ahead for good with a 13-0 run in the second quarter to go up 20-14 at halftime.

Woodruff then put the Warriors ahead for good with 34.5 seconds left in the half. He faked the dive to Davenport and sprinted around the left end for a 29-yard score.
